Not many people knows, that not only police was hunting Al Capone. One of his worst enemy was Earl Wojciechowski (Hymie Weiss) - another gang boss from the time of Prohibition. He was the one who dare to challenge Capone's and Torino's gang.
Earl Wojciechowski was Polish emigrant, which spent his childhood in Irish district of Chicago. It was there, that he met Dion O'Banion and together, they were involved in burglary, theft and numerous robberies. They created gang called "North Sliders". In Prohibition times, they cooperated with AlCapone and John Torrio group, but after 1921, both gangs become rivals.
In 1924 Al Capone's gang killed O'Banion. Wojciechowski become numero uno of North Sliders. He wanted to take revange for the friend's murder and kill Al Capone.
Capone often ate at the restaurant on the 55 street. In 1925 Earl and two other gangsters organized an ambush on Capone. They were driving behind him in limo to this restaurant and when he go out of the car, they fired 26 bullets in Capone's car. They hit limo drivers and every Capone's bodyguard, but Capone was intact. Wojciechowski tried to take the revange once again and organized one more assasination on Torino, but the result was almost the same - Torino was injured, but he survived.

After two unsuccesful attempts, Earl did not give up. He organized second attempt on Torino. He and Goerge "Bug" Morano attacked Torino in front of his house. Once again Torino was injured, even more than in first confontation, but he survived. Two weeks later scared Torino retire from the gang.

Earl was still not satisfied and one more time he tried to kill Capone. This time in Hawthorne Inn in Cicero in Illinois. This was very risky operation beacuse in Inn there was Capone's gang's headquater. Earl's people were using machine guns but... even this time nobody died. Capone was rescued by one of his guard.
This was too much for Capone's gang. Wojciechowski were murdered three weeks later. The offenders are unknown, but there are rumors, that it was Capone's people. In Wojciechowski's body, in hospital, ten bullets were found. He died at the age 28 years. And that is the end of the story of the man, who challanged Capone.
