Yesterday at about 9:00 polish time, the great tragedy took place. Polish air force one (TU-154) crashed in Smolensk. President, his wife and the most important Polish officials died. Nobody from the plane crew survived.

President, Lech Kaczyński was on his way to ceremonies commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Katyn massacre on Polish officers by Soviets. According to official informations, the cause of crash was bad weather condition. The plane tried 3-4 times to land on an airfield but finally caught a tree, fall and burned.

With president on plane were also: heads of polish army, two candidates for the next president, the head of the national bank, university rectors, heads of churches and many more. Passenger list contains near 90 names.

Today president remains were transported to Poland capital (Warsaw) where funeral march took place. Thousands of people take part in this event.
