Warsaw University of Science (Politechnika Warszawska) is one of the leading Polish university. It is the largest and the oldest technical high school in Poland with the beginnigs dated on 1826.

After few first years school was closed (in 1831) as one of represions after November Uprising (Powstanie Listopadowe).This state last for about 60 years. In the end of XiX age russian goverment gived Poland permission to run own technical academy. There were of course some restrictions from russian governemnt like russian as teaching language. Learning and teching in polish language was possible after First World War. Since then Warsaw Univeristy is working continously.

During second World War Warsaw Univeristy lost many of their teachers, buildings and equipmeent. Germans tried to close univeristy, but they failed. School was still running under cover.

View from the outside

Currently Politechnika is employing over 2000 professors, have over 34,000 of students (5000 graduates per year) and 17 divisions (faculties) covering almost all fields of the science and technology.

Interesting thing is that every ninth president from the top 500 Polish companies is a graduate of the Warsaw University.
