Author: Goku122 under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0"Bartek" Oak is one of the most magnificent tree in Poland. It can be seen in Bartków village. It has the height of 30 meters (12 floors) and 314cm in diameter. The age of this oak is unknown because it has rotten stock. Hovewer the age is estimated at 650 to 1200 years.

According to one of legends, Jan III Sobieski - Polish king - was resting beneath Bartek in the way home after the battle in Wien. It is said, that he put some treasures (Turkish sabre, matchlock and wine) into the hollow. Today the hollow is adherent and no one knows if legend is true. The tresaures are probably still there.

Even if Bartek is not 1200, but 700 years old, let's wonder what happend then in Poland - the country was in Middle Age, the Piast Dynasty ruled, Konrad Mazowiecki has just brought Teutonic Knights to North Polish borders (later they become dangerous threat)... Imagine the Bartek Oak was the witness of all this and the further history of Poland.

Today Bartek is facing the real problem - he started to crush under his own weight. He is still living, but has rotten stock. Scientist made everything, to don't let it happened. On pictures can be seen supporting metal pillars and places where some of the branches were cut.
