Sigmund Augustus was a great admirer of female charms.No wonder he was not impressed with his wife Elizabeth, a woman suffering from epilepsy, and often sought solace in other women's arms. The most famous of his mistresses was Barbara Radziwill, a Lithuanian woman from aristocratic family, who returned his affection. It was for her that Sigmund Augustus brought to Poland a special kind of swans.

Gniew (in Polish it means anger) - small city built in XIII - is famous in Europe, becouse of it's castle and International Knights Tournament which is hosted every year by the town.

Author: Goku122 under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0"Bartek" Oak is one of the most magnificent tree in Poland. It can be seen in Bartków village. It has the height of 30 meters (12 floors) and 314cm in diameter. The age of this oak is unknown because it has rotten stock. Hovewer the age is estimated at 650 to 1200 years.

 

According to one of legends, Jan III Sobieski - Polish king - was resting beneath Bartek in the way home after the battle in Wien. It is said, that he put some treasures (Turkish sabre, matchlock and wine) into the hollow. Today the hollow is adherent and no one knows if legend is true. The tresaures are probably still there.
