In Poland very popular in '90 were cheap wines called jabol, belt or alpaga. Those wines cost under 1$ per 0,7 liter but sometimes even one quarter of dollar per 0,7l. This is why poor peopel, unemployees and students beloved this liquor ;-)
In current days, those wines are displaced by beer, becouse society is richer and beer advertisements spread culture of drinking this golden alcohol. In opposite there is no advertisement of cheap wine at all.
Jabols were produced by many wineries in Poland. They have different recipients, taste and smell. Common for them is simmilar text on the label which says: sweet/semi-sweet fruit aromatized wine/alcohol drink/wine-simmilar drink. Sometimes jabol is not wine but spiritus with juice. A lot of jabols have funny names such as "satan sperm", "bull", "elder tears", "cosmos".
We do not recomend to drink aplaga wines someone with weak stomach, but in case of visiting Poland try to taste one of them. Just for curiosity :)

Wild cherry ;-)
