The history of "Agathon's" life (born in 1911 in Warsaw, died in 2002 in the same city). it's not well known to a broader range of the society. It is a pity, becouse in our opinion, he was a hero. He wrote his biography in the book: "Stanisław Jankowski, the one with the true false Ausweis in Warsaw" (pol. Stanisław Jankowski, Z fałszywym Ausweisem w prawdziwej Warszawie")

Soon before war, Jankowski studied architecture on Warsaw University. In 1939 he joined as volunteer the Polish Army and as lieutenant he was assigned to the light artyllery unit in Wilno. After the city was took over by the Soviet troops, he was interned and putted in the camp. He managed to escape and went to France. In Poland he left his family-he thought, that they would be safe there. But they were taken to the Nazi concentration camp and killed there.
After short fights in France, Jankowski went to Great Britain. He was trained there in special military units for the special operations in Poland. On the night of 3 to 4 March 1942, he was parachuted over occupied Polish. He started a second life as head of departament engaged in the production of false documents for the Polish inteligence officers. In that time he finded out, that his family were taken to Nazi's concentration camp.
In Warsaw Uprising Jankowski were commander of the "Agaton" branch of the "Fist" batalion. On the sad end of Uprising, he took very risky try to get to the Kampinowski's Forest near Warsaw to bring the guerrilla units stationed there. Then, through the Warsaw's underground channels (sewers), he helped in evacuation of civilians from the Old Town (figting area). Unfortunatelly, he was taken as prisioner by the Germans. In the camp, he served as an aide of Gen. Tadeusz Bor-Komoroski - the last leader of the Uprising.
After war, Jankowski was able to escape from the sad fate of his comraders in arms. He managed to avoid prison, death and other persecutions from the Soviet authorities. He owed is tyo his education - Warsaw needed then architects. Among other things, thanks to him the, famous Warsaw road from East to West (pol trasa W-Z) was built.
