The first Polish ruler, known by every Polish child is Mieszko The First. He was the king of Poland in 960-992). He is known becouse he united pogan tribes which lived on Polish Lands. He brought christianity to Poland by marrying Dobrawa, Czech princess, to  strengthen the Polish position in Europe. Poland was then pogan country but  in all western Europe christianity were spread. So he has to marry catolique princess to avoid war.

  • Mieszko was blind till 7. 
  • Mieszko, before Dobrawa, has SEVEN wifes (this was common in Poland then)
  • Dobrawa wanted Mieszko to abandon his wives, so she was starving for a year , to compel him to do so.

 

Before Mieszko The First Poland was only cluster of Slavs tribes. Some of them was small and insignificant, but some of them was really big communities. Especially Polans and Goplans. Goplans for example had nearly 400 castles.

Some information in this article are not true. Christianity was on polish lands before Mieszko due to fact that some regions like Silesia and Little Poland were part of Great Moravia kingdom in XVIII century.
Mieszko wasn't blind - not for sure. Some these days writers wrote about his blindness but It can be metaphore that he was a pagan.
And the last. Existence of Goplan tribe is still unclear and it is discussed. Some historics says that there were no Goplan tribe and all their castles were owned by Polans.
