PDF

Last weekend Poles voted in election of new President of the Polish Republic. Candidates were two: Bronisław Komorowski and Jarosław Kaczyński. The official data published by the National Electoral Commission show that in this election Polish society was very divided. Bronislaw Komorowski won with Jaroslaw Kaczynski with a small amount of votes.

Platforma Obywatelska (political party) has a majority in the government. Now, after election of president, has also own president. On the one hand it is a great victory for them, on the other - great test. There is no excuse for them now, that the President could veto their reforms. Platforma Obywatelska (in short PO) must get down to work. Otherwise the people will know who to blame for lack of/bad reforms.

Voters for Jaroslaw Kaczynski are afraid that Komorowski would support the anti-social policy of the PO. They speak about health care reform, to raise the retirement age threshold and the elimination of ASIF. How it will be? Who knows? But the new president promised a lot and now people are waiting and wondering if he fulfill his obligations.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski lost the election but still he has much supporters. The best for him is now to remaining in opposition, waiting for any slip of the ruling party. As a presidential candidate, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, like Komorowski, made a lot of promises during time before election. It is known, however, that man could not rely on any election prommises.

So we will wait and see how new president will rule Poland.

"So we will wait and see how new president will rule Poland."

Poland is ruled by the government not the president.
I'm affraid that we won't see anything interesting.
I think that Komorowski will not rule the country,
he will reign the country.

Hm.. Yes, there were voices in press, that TVN was acting as PO supporter. Such voices can be heard much earlier. It's bolieved, that this TV station isn't conductive to the PIS party, church etc. so it favors PO.

TVP acted like PIS and SLD supporter - You can read about this for example here: http://wyborcza.pl/1,75478,8066548,TVP_dobrze_o_kandydatach_PiS_i_SLD.html but I do not know, this article is very objective, because Gazeta is known for its sympathy to PO.

We write that Kaczynski was criticised by the media, because we meant, that some people says that Kaczyński, as brother of tragically died last president, only took the oportunity. (Search the web for the song about PIS and Kaczynski - "After the dead bodies to the purpose" which could be heard in radio some time ago)

Interesting that you should comment that Kaczyński was criticised by the media. I kept hearing comments about TVP's known PiS support being fully utilised against Komoroski, while TVN was acting as his PO supporter. Any views on this?
