In Poland, there were once very popular cartoon: "Elemelek sparrow" - video for children about little bird, which was then very common in Poland. Nowadays sparrows may soon disappear not only from television screens, but also from our backyards.

In the past sparrows were considered as pest and they were exterminated by farmers. Today it is known, that sparrows are very useful in the fight against parasites. Beside people little birds have to fight with other, larger birds, with lack of food and strong winters. All this brings sparrows  on the edge of extinction. Fortunately now they are under protection and farmers don't fight with them.
