Common Pipistrelle is one of the smallest bat in the world. It is 3,5-4,5 cm long (with a wingspan 19-25 cm). It's weight is about 7 g - almost the same as the U.S. dollar (8g). Such small creature lives usually.. up to 16 years.

Common pipistrelle lives all over the world. In Poland is under strict protection (as all bats).

It eats insects (smaller than 5mm in diameter) like small flies and mosquitoes which it catches during fly. The bat lives in the buildings, roofs, caves or trees in numerous colonies. Some of colonies could have more than 800 individuals.

Everyone knows, that bats are producing sounds which humans can't hear. Such sounds let them avoid obstacles during flight. What is interesting,sometimes males of common pipistrelle emits sounds, which humans can hear. These sounds are emited during mating period to lure females.
