Błędowska (Bledow) Desert, called sometimes Polish Sahara, its the largest ash sand area in Poland. Moreover it's the largest area in Central Europe with sands away from the seas. Desert is between Błedów and village Klucze it is 10 km long and 4 km wide.

Bledow Desert was created by devil, who was flying over this area with sand bag which he than rip off. Thus says the legends, but the science says of course somethinng completly different ;-) Bledow Desert is the result of the destructive and devastating activities of man. such as deforestation and mining. In Middle Ages the Desert was even larger and have about 150 m2 (now only 32-33 m2). In the 50th on south area of the desert was plowed and planted with pine. Currently whole area is under protection in "Natura 2000" (Nature 2000) program.

Błedowska Desert was often used as military trainig ground. During Second World War German Afrika Corps were trainig here before deploy to Afrika.
